Tight braids, twists and styles that generally pull so hard on your edges is the major cause of thin edges. Using too many styling tools such as hair glues on your edges also causes it to thin over time. If care isn't taken, you develop a condition known as traction alopecia which becomes very difficult to grow back but not impossible.
