The ABCs of Caring For Locs
Posted by Main Admin on
Keeping hair, no matter the type, takes consistency and a proper hair regimen. There's often a misconception about locs where some folks regard it as low maintenance. To an extent it is. However, for healthier locs, you have to invest a lot of time, effort and resources. Here are some fundamental things you need to do when you have locs.
Shampoo your locs
Yes, you have to shampoo your locs. Due to its nature, dust, dirt and residue of products can easily get trapped in your locs. Shampooing helps get rid of these, keeping them clean. It is also essential to keep your scalp clean. Although you have to shampoo and wash your locs, the attention should be on your scalp. If you just installed locs, you don't need to wash them right away. They may unravel easily. 2-4 weeks should be enough time to wash baby locs.
Dry your locs after washing
Moisture easily gets trapped in locs. After washing, they have to be dried well. You want to do this to avoid mould in your hair or having to deal with an unpleasant smell. Get yourself a micro fibre towel or an old t-shirt and wrap it around your locs. Keep it on till it is dry.
Moisturize your locs
Compared to afro natural hair, locs do not need so much moisture. All you need to do is to apply the locs spray from the Eya Naturals Locs Set and massage it unto your scalp and hair. Depending on how dry your locs are, you can do this daily or every other day. Moisturized locs are healthy locs.
Deep condition
Deep condition isn't just for afros. Deep conditioning helps restore moisture in hair keeping it healthier, fuller and shinier. Ideally, deep conditioning once every 2 weeks is important. In order to reap maximum benefits, apply the deep conditioning treatment after shampooing your locs, cover it with a shower cap and apply low to medium heat for about 15-20 minutes. Rinse your locs with water thoroughly after and then moisturize. That's it!
Massage your scalp
Hair needs blood flow on the scalp to grow. Massaging your scalp, especially with a growth stimulating natural oil, increases blood flow on your scalp whilst stimulating growth. To prevent buildup, you can opt for lighter oils or wash your hair more often.
Satin scarf or bonnet is a must
Protect your hair at all cost. Invest in a satin or silk scarf or bonnet. Cover your hair with it just before bedtime. This prevents your locs from being pulled or tugged which could result in breakage or some form of damage. Plus, it helps retain moisture in your hair.
Caring for locs is definitely essential for its health. Enjoy the hair care process. For further hair consultation, please contact Eya Naturals on +233 204 600 464 or +233 59 237 7008 @eyanaturals on Facebook and Instagram.
