Caring For Locs

Posted by Main Admin on

There's a whole culture around locs we often forget to talk about. Although there's a fountain of information about taking care of locs, it often gets lost in 'translation'. In today's post, we highlight the basics of taking care of locs. For the avoidance of doubt, all the points discussed are in relation to permanent locs.

Moisturize your locs

Contrary to popular beliefs, you can't leave locs to chance. One of the most important things you can do for your locs is to moisturize it. Aside moisturizing on washdays, get yourself a locs spray or hair mist you can use daily. The Eya Naturals Locs Spray has peppermint oil and a blend of essential oils to moisturize your locs and soothe your scalp as well.

Deep condition

Yes, you can! Deep conditioning for locs is a must. Doing so keeps your hair moisturized, healthy and vibrant. Opting for a Deep Conditioning Treatment at least once every 2 weeks ought to be part of your hair regimen. This being said, we do not recommend deep conditioning treatment for beginner locs.

Thoroughly dry locs after washing

Due to how compact your hair gets when loc'ed, please ensure you dry it thoroughly after every wash to prevent the possible growth of mould. Many prefer air drying their locs. If you're in a hurry, you could use a hair dryer with minimum heat or no heat at all. Whatever you opt for, just make sure your hair is thoroughly dry.

Use light natural oils

Heavy oils when used on locs weigh down the hair. It is advisable to opt for lighter natural oils including sweet almond oil, avocado oil, peppermint oil among others. They're equally good and leave your hair feeling and looking healthier.

Wear a satin bonnet or scarf

This is non-negotiable. To prevent your locs from snatching on to cotton pillowcases leading to possible damage as a result of friction, opt for a satin bonnet or scarf. Alternatively, you could change your pillowcases to satin.

Choose products that work for you

Although you're in locs, you'll still need hair products to take care of it. Go in for products that moisturize, protect and leave your hair healthier than before. We recommend the Eya Naturals Locs Set which is enriched with Lemon and Peppermint Essential Oil to revitalize and cleanse your scalp and to moisturize your hair to promote healthy hair.

Have fun with your hair

Now this is very important. Having locs doesn't mean you have to wear one particular style for the rest of your loc'ed life. Have fun with it. Wear different styles and experiment with scarfs, beads, etc. If you're feeling stuck on what to do with it, just visit Eya Salon and you would be sorted.

It's exciting to have on and experience locs. Keep enjoying the process. For further hair consultation, please do not hesitate to contact Eya Naturals on +233 204 600 464 or +233 59 237 7008 @eyanaturals on Facebook and Instagram
