Dealing With Dandruff

Posted by Main Admin on

If you've ever had dandruff, you would know it's not pleasant. Apart from the constant itching, the white flaky scales can be embarrassing at times especially when you're in public. Don't be weary if you suffer from this predicament. Having a good understanding of how to care for your hair when you have dandruff, will help in dealing with the situation.

Dandruff explained

Dandruff stems from the overgrowth of the fungus known as malassezia. This makes the skin shed more rapidly than normal. This fungus usually feeds off of sebum in the hair which is naturally produced oil. Dandruff can occur on its own or can come along with an irritating itch.

Causes of dandruff

Dandruff can be caused by a myriad of factors including

  • Harsh hair products
  • Stress
  • Long periods in between washdays
  • Poor diet
  • Hormonal imbalance

Treating dandruff

Getting rid of dandruff doesn't have to be a herculean task. Here are some remedies.

Choose the right products

Since one of the main causes of dandruff stems from using harsh hair products, a simple remedy you can go in for is to be meticulous about the kind of hair products you use. If you have dry, flaky scalp then go in for products which are good for dandruff such as the Dry Scalp Set from Eya Naturals. The different products work together to relieve dry, itchy and flaky scalp while promoting soft, manageable, tangle-free, healthy hair.

You can also never go wrong in adding Peppermint Oil to your hair products if you have dandruff. Peppermint oil is known to help alleviate dry, itchy scalp and gives instant relief. Tea Tree Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar are also great when dealing with dandruff.

Wash hair regularly

Washing your hair often helps when dealing with dandruff. It helps in getting rid of any buildup and excess oil on the scalp. If you're washing your hair by yourself, make sure to give yourself a few added minutes of scalp massages. If you visit a salon, prompt the stylist to massage your scalp for a few minutes. Doing this promotes blood circulation.

Treat your hair often

Hair treatments including Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, Dry Scalp Treatments, Coconut Oil Treatment among others are a great way of treating dandruff. Apart from providing relief from dandruff and itchy scalp, these treatments also provide moisture to your hair strands for healthier hair. If you're not sure of how to go about it, visit Eya Salon or any trusted natural hair salon.

Go in for hair mists

Especially when you're in braids, do not ignore your hair. Go in for the Aloe Vera Hair Mist or the Anti-Itch Hair and Scalp Spray. Both products do a good job of providing instant relief from dry, itchy scalp. The Aloe Vera Hair Mist is water-based whilst the Anti-Itch Hair and Scalp Spray is oil-based. Spray unto scalp every morning and evening or when needed. You can carry it in your purse all-day.

Add lemon to your hair regimen

The acid in lemon helps ward off the fungus causing dandruff. It also helps in restoring the pH levels of the scalp to relieve you of any itchiness. All you need to do is to squeeze about 3 spoonful fresh lemon juice. Apply it on the scalp after washing your hair and massage thoroughly. Leave on for about 15-20 minutes and rinse with water. You can repeat this 2-3 times a week or do it every washday.

Relax, rest, rejuvenate!

Don't succumb to stress. The body becomes weak when stressed which makes it difficult to ward off any infections. Incorporate fun things into your schedule. Take regular breaks, drink lots of water and do things to make you happy and relaxed.

Eat right

You can never go wrong with a good diet. Leafy, green vegetables plus brightly coloured fruits are a great addition to your diet. Make it interesting by juicing or by turning them into smoothies. Avoid junk food and drinks as much as possible.

If you've been dealing with dandruff for a while now, don't give. Try any of the pointers listed above and you'll be fine. Stay positive.
